“He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.” ~Colossians 1:13-14
Birthright.. Have you ever thought about what that means for us as children of God? Technically, a birthright is what we receive at birth-it’s a right, privilege, or possession. When we are born again into the family of God we are given a new identity, an inheritance, purpose and responsibilities. We are adopted into the Kingdom of God and everything that belongs to Jesus Christ is now ours too. Romans 8:17, “ Since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory.”
I didn’t always understand this fully and I’m still trying to learn to walk in it. It’s a lot to take in and our minds have to be transformed to these truths before we can learn to live it out. This is why satan works so hard in this area of confusing our identities. If we don’t know who we are in Christ then we walk around in bondage and are not using our authority in Christ to take back territory from the enemy.
Before we became born again we had a sin nature-this was our destiny, birthright , and inheritance because of the fall in the Garden of Eden. This is exactly what the enemy went after with Adam and Eve-he wanted to steal their birthright. This is why Jesus came for us-to restore what was lost. God has a plan and that is to change our sin nature and allow us to be born again with a new nature-our spirits come alive and the Holy Spirit lives in us. We are forgiven and now we are made back in right standing with our Father. 2 Corinthians 5:17, “ Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun.” Ephesians 2:6 tells us, “ He also raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavens in Christ Jesus.” We are in Christ!!
The enemy keeps trying to steal our birthright-first in the garden and now with our identity and authority. We have to wake up to this and get our minds around what has been given to us. We have a rich inheritance in Christ Jesus.
What is our inheritance? We are being given something that according to 1 Peter 1:4 says can never perish, spoil or fade. It’s kept in heaven for us. However, we are receiving some of it now here on earth too. What we have with Christ is eternal. The world is fading away and everything in it. We can’t take anything to heaven with us but our relationships. Nothing impure will ever be in heaven. Revelation 21:4, “4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” We will be with Jesus forever and not suffer anymore. Everything we go through here is only momentary compared to all of eternity.
Our inheritance has started now here on earth but will be fulfilled one day In heaven. The Holy Spirit is our downpayment for things to come according to Ephesians 1:11-14 We have His presence, His peace, His healing power, His assurance, His hope, His protection, His direction, and His joy to name a few. Let’s be children that live with the end in mind. Living for Jesus day to day on our way to eternity. We have Him no matter what we go through-and that is everything. Let’s rise up and walk in the authority and freedom He has freely given for our families sake , for our sake and for other’s sake. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is now in us and working through us. Let’s take back our birthright as the children of God and trample on the kingdom of darkness by being Kingdom of God focused!
In Him,
Heather Bradley
