We all know what it feels like to carry a heavy load. Whether it’s the pressure of work, the weight of personal struggles, or the worries about the future, life can sometimes feel like a constant uphill climb. But what if I told you that you don’t have to carry that weight alone? There’s someone who is ready and waiting to take it from you—Jesus.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us to come to Him, saying, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." It’s such a simple invitation, yet so profound. He doesn’t say, “Figure it out on your own.” Instead, He offers peace, comfort, and strength. He offers rest for our souls. And that rest is exactly what we need when the burdens of life feel too heavy to bear.
We live in a world full of noise, chaos, and expectations. Whether it’s trying to juggle family life, meet deadlines, or battle with our own inner thoughts, it’s easy to feel like we’re drowning under the weight of it all. The worries seem endless, and sometimes, they take up so much space in our minds that it’s hard to focus on anything else.
The truth is, we all have burdens. And sometimes, we try to carry them alone, thinking we can handle it or that no one else will understand. But Jesus doesn’t want us to do that. He knows the weight of our struggles, and He’s there, waiting for us to ask for help.
For me, the burden of responsibility started early. As the oldest child in my family and a child of divorce, I often felt like it was my job to hold everything together. It was as though I was carrying the responsibility of everything around me-and it felt that people expected that from me. One day, in a quiet moment, Jesus spoke to me in a way that changed everything. He said, “You are not responsible for everyone’s burdens. Give them to me.” It was such a simple message, but it was so freeing. I realized that I didn’t have to be the one to carry everything. Jesus was there, waiting for me to hand Him my worries, my fears, and the weight of the world I had been holding onto. For the first time, I felt a deep, freeing sense of peace. I could let go and trust Him. What I learned was when we allow Jesus to carry our burdens we become free to help others with theirs. Not be responsible for it all -that’s on Jesus-but because we trust Him to carry it all we can be free to help others. Galatians 6:2, “ Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” He carries them so the weight of other’s burdens does not crush us.
Taking Every Thought Captive
In 2 Corinthians 10:5, we’re told to “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” This isn’t just about controlling our actions—it’s about controlling the thoughts that keep us bound up in anxiety, fear, and worry.
When we’re overwhelmed by life, it’s easy to let our thoughts spiral out of control. We start imagining the worst-case scenarios, worrying about things that may never happen. But Jesus calls us to take those thoughts captive—to not let them dominate our minds and hearts.
How do we do that? By bringing those thoughts to Him. By replacing the lies and fears in our minds with the truth of who God is and what He promises. When we remember that Jesus is with us, we begin to see our burdens in a new light. We realize that we don’t have to carry them alone. We can cast them on Him, knowing that He is stronger than any worry, any fear, or any obstacle we face.
In 1 Peter 5:7, we’re told to “cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” That means no burden is too small or too big for Jesus. Whether it’s a fear about your health, a relationship struggle, or a deep uncertainty about the future, you can bring it to Him and leave it at His feet.
But casting our cares on Jesus isn’t always easy. It requires trust. It requires letting go of the need to control every aspect of our lives and handing over the things that weigh us down. It’s not a one-time event; it’s a daily choice to rely on Him. But every time we do, we can experience the peace that comes from knowing we’re not in this alone.

How to Actively Cast Your Cares on Jesus
Pray with honesty: Don’t try to hide your struggles from God. He already knows them. Be real with Him about what’s weighing on you.
Claim His promises: Stand on the truth of Scripture. Remember that Jesus is a refuge, a helper, and a source of peace.
Let go of control: Trust that God has a plan, even when you can’t see it. He’s at work, even in the hard times.
Focus on the present: Don’t let your mind get caught up in future worries. Take things one step at a time, knowing God is with you in each moment.
No matter what you’re going through, you don’t have to carry your burdens alone, and other’s burdens don’t have to crush you. Jesus is there, offering to take them from you. He invites you to come to Him, to rest in His peace, and to trust that He will carry what you cannot. So, next time you feel weighed down by life’s challenges, remember His promise: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Cast your cares on Him, and experience the freedom and peace that only He can give.
In Him,
Heather Bradley
