Every idle word we speak we will be accountable for it one day. Matthew 12:36, “ But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give an account of it in the day of judgment.” That’s hard to wrap our minds around. I don’t know about you, but that leaves me feeling a little lacking in this area. This is where we can fall on our knees and be so thankful for the blood of Jesus and what He did for us on the cross. I am so thankful for my sins being forgiven. Let’s be real we mess up a lot in our flesh. We say a lot of things that aren’t always productive. The goodness of the gospel is we don’t have to stay there. With our sins being forgiven and the power of the Holy Spirit living in us we can be transformed.

Thank goodness the Holy Spirit brings us conviction so we can remember when we fall short and then He reminds us of all truth so we can begin to live in it. We live our whole lives moving from falling short to becoming an overcomer. Some things are easier for us than others. It’s a process and we call that sanctification. We have to allow the living word to renew our minds. We must be willing to surrender our flesh and obey the ways of God. When we live in this place of humility we then experience His power in us to change. Sometimes it’s one foot forward and ten steps back but eventually we will step into freedom and there comes a moment in our lives that we can say-I am free! This is only by the power of Jesus!
We should all be moving forward in one way or another in our lives. There is always something He is working on. Words are a big deal to God. He knows there is power in them. He spoke things into existence. The enemy uses our words to come into agreement with us-the enemy is just waiting for us to speak the opposite of faith so he can do his work. He wants us to stay in bondage. He wants to kill, steal and destroy our lives. To keep us trapped in fear and to feel stuck. We sow and reap with our words. When we resist the enemy and sow the word of God-speak it, think it, pray it, and believe it then we reap that. If we sow our flesh we reap that. We have a choice.
The Bible is full of scriptures that talk about our words. Our words have so much power and that’s why God wants us to get away from idle words. He wants us to speak like Him and prophesy what He can do. To believe what He said. We can have conversations for example in our work place with others and encourage them in the ways of God without even quoting scriptures. When we hide the word of God in us-it naturally flows out of us.
Let’s take hold of these scriptures to renew our minds and be mindful of the nudging of the Holy Spirit to gain freedom in this area of our lives. Let’s be people that speak His word instead!
Proverbs 12:18, “ There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.”
Psalms 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight , O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”
Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Mark 11:23, “Truly, I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”
In Him,
